Eatery serves Asian fare, holiday buffets

Right in the heart of the bustling urban area of Downtown Honolulu, you’ll find The Mandalay, a spacious and elegant establishment that caters to your ultimate Asian dining experience. The Alakea Street eatery has been open for nearly a decade, serving Hong Kong-style cuisine that provides a sweet escape for locals, working professionals and tourists alike. The two-story restaurant can hold up to 320 people, and is available to host all types of celebrations with its delectable dishes. “We not only carry Hong Kong-style cooking, but we also carry dim sum, which is cooked to order,” says owner and manager Linda Chan. The texture of dim sum is sensitive, and it’s important, Chan says, in order to keep the dish fresh and avoid it turning to mush.

This Thanksgiving Day, treat yourself and your family to a holiday feast for either the restaurant’s brunch or dinner buffet. Brunch seatings are available at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., while dinner seatings are 5 and 7 p.m.

During brunch ($23.99 adults, $18.99 seniors 60 and over, $14.99 children ages 3-12), the restaurant will be featuring Turkey with Chinese Stuffing, along with its vast variety of Hong Kong-style dim sum, which includes Steamed BBQ Pork Bun, Deep Fried Dried Shrimp Puff and Bean Curd Rolls in Oyster Sauce. Various entrees and desserts also will be available during both brunch and dinner. Dinner ($28.99 adults, $23.99 seniors 60 and over, $17.99 children ages 3-12) will feature Roast Pig, Ham, Yams and more. Vegetarian dishes, such as Sauteed Tofu with Broccoli ($11.95), also are available, but parties must advise the restaurant in advance.

Parking is available at Bishop Square Monday-Friday with validation after 5 p.m., and all day Saturday and Sunday, as well as at Alii Place next doorfor a specific rate.
