Running tanks full of water house ocean critters of all shapes and sizes at Paradise Seafood Market & Restaurant. The Keeaumoku Street establishment not only offers fresh produce, but also live seafood for an affordable, quality lunch or any social get-together.
When Dining Out stopped in at Paradise Seafood — complete with inside and outside seating and a display fish tank of pet fish (not to be eaten) — a live hirame (halibut) had just been chosen to be prepared for the ultimate fresh sashimi. Other seafood selections may not be taken straight from the tanks, but they still are as fresh as can be — like oysters, mussels and shrimp.
Already prepared dishes include varieties of poke and customer favorites, such as Spicy Eel ($24.99) and Salt and Garlic Eel ($24.99). But the prized item in the restaurant is uni, or sea urchin, for its exceptional quality and affordable price.
GOLD OF THE SEA
As uni, or sea urchin, is one of the most valued and requested options at Paradise Seafood Market & Restaurant, it’s only fitting that it would be included in one of the eatery’s best menu offerings. Sashimi Large ($100) varies according to what seafood is available and most fresh, but includes at least 10 fish, with the constants being a whole lobster (sashimi-style), abalone (live selection), uni and ahi (from the daily local auction).
“Our price and grade of uni is unbeatable,” states Phillip Lee, restaurant co-owner and head chef.
