It’s a sensory experience you can expect at Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant — one that begins even before you enter its doors.

Located in Hookipa Terrace at Ala Moana Center, Jade Dynasty is easy to spot: Just look for its ornate entryway. Inside the restaurant is a comfortable and elegant atmosphere. A crowd at seemingly any hour serves as a testament to everything the restaurant has to offer.

An extensive menu features a variety of traditional and contemporary cuisine.

General manager Gary Chan explains that many of the dishes — like Steamed Clams with Basil and Daikon ($17.95), a newer item — were inspired by the restaurant owner’s travels. This soup features a light broth, with generous portions of steamed clams, basil and slices of daikon.

Also new is Fried Rice with Fish and Ginger ($13.95). Just the right size to share, it features rice cooked with egg, and topped with a light sauce, slices of fish and ginger.

In addition to a la carte items, Jade Dynasty also serves dim sum daily from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Last call is at 4:45 p.m.) Items range from Steamed Shanghai Buns and Curry Beef Balls to Steamed Pork Dump-lings. New to the lineup is a slightly sweet Caramelized Egg Tart ($4.50 for two pieces) and Baked Mochi Rice ($5 .50). The latter is a savory and decadent dish with a layer of rice, topped with chicken, mushrooms and cheese, which then is baked and served while it’s still hot.

And if you still have room for dessert, Chan recommends requesting the restaurant’s Mango Pudding to end things on a sweet note.
