Still figuring out your Mother’s Day plans? Why not take Mom to everyone’s favorite place — Zippy’s? The atmosphere is comfortable, the food is consistently good and it’s a family-friendly restaurant. Zippy’s will put a smile on Mom’s face: and if Mom is happy, everyone’s happy.
And Zippy’s presents a special Mother’s Day menu to help celebrate the occasion.
Available May 10 and 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. (dine-in only), the hearty menu features an entree choice of Prime Rib ($23.95) or Grilled Salmon with Crab and Artichoke Sauce and Garlic Butter Shrimp Combo ($19.25). (Prices are slightly higher at Zippy’s Kahului and Hilo locations.)
Prime Rib is served with au jus and horseradish, along with corn and choice of white or brown rice, french fries or real mashed potatoes. Grilled Salmon is a healthy option and comes with choy sum, broccoli and choice of white or brown rice, french fries or real mashed potatoes.
Both are part of a deluxe complete meal that includes a dinner roll, choice of soup or tossed salad, choice of large drink or coffee, and choice of Strawberry Shortcake Fantasy, Brownie Delight or Red Velvet Cake A la Mode (Red Velvet Cake A la Mode is available at all restaurant locations except Kahului).
Also, for the past few years, Zippy’s has introduced refreshing salads every couple of months. For May and June, Zippy’s features Cold Saimin Salad ($7.95) and Fresh Strawberry Salad ($8.25), available 24 hours a day in the dine-in restaurant only (prices may vary at locations). Cold Saimin Salad presents patrons with saimin noodles served on a bed of chopped iceberg lettuce topped with imitation crab, char siu, Spam, egg, cucumbers and furikake, and splashed with a choice of ginger sesame or house dressing. Fresh Strawberry Salad was offered last year and proved to be a customer favorite, so Zippy’s decided to bring it back once more. The salad features ‘Nalo zip greens, fresh strawberry slices and almond slivers served with a special homemade sweet vinaigrette dressing.
Also new for May and June, is Pineapple Haupia Waffle ($7.50), available 24 hours daily (dine-in only, prices may vary by locations). Order it for breakfast or as a dessert, and indulge in a crisp Belgian waffle topped with a scoop of ice cream, along with haupia sauce, crushed pineapple, macadamia nuts and whipped cream. It’s great for sharing or enjoying on your own.
“Pineapple Haupia Waffle is a completely new item,” notes Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki, marketing manager. “We try to add different items to keep the menu fresh.”
Also, pay a visit to Zippy’s this month for a chance to win a ‘Family Funtivity-Pac.’ Zippy’s will be giving away one of 10 grand prize adventure packs that includes four tickets to Atlantis Submarines, four tickets to Wet ‘n’ Wild, four tickets to Polynesian Cultural Center’s Ha: Breath of Life, four race cards at Podium Raceway and four tickets to iTrampo-line. Coinciding with the giveaway, Zippy’s will offer the following “fun-sized” items at special prices: Mini Chili Frank ($4.99 fast food/$5.99 dine-in), Mini Chicken Katsu ($4.99 fast food/$5.99 dine-in) and Mini Spaghetti with Garlic Bread ($4.59 fast food/$5.59 dine-in).
Zippy’s was founded in 1966 and has become an Island tradition for families craving local-style comfort food. Especially popular are its Chili, Fried Chicken and Saimin, as well as plate lunches, burgers and Zip Pacs. Even local boy Bruno Mars gave a shout-out to Zippy’s, changing the lyrics to his song Billionaire during his recent sold-out concerts at Neal Blaisdell Center.
There are 23 Zippy’s establishments on Oahu, plus one in Kahului, Maui, and one in Hilo, Hawaii. Most locations are conveniently open 24 hours a day. When hunger strikes, you can always count on Zippy’s, just like you can always count on Mom.
