A Dawn of New Desserts

Rise and Shine Cafe in Mililani Mauka offers up delicious items for breakfast, lunch and everything in between.

While desserts are traditionally thought of as after-dinner indulgences, Rise and Shine proves that you can treat yourself to something sweet any time of day.

Owner Lauren Pfeiffer’s move to add desserts to the menu has been a huge success, and it isn’t hard to see why.

The Pumpkin Mousse Cheesecake ($4.95 per slice, $32 whole pie), for example, is perfect for Thanksgiving, which is right around the corner. (You can pre-order your Pumpkin Mousse Cheese-cake for any upcoming holiday party or get together as well.)

“I enjoy making cheese-cakes, and I like to try different ones,” Pfeiffer explains. “This one is kind of a combination. Pumpkin can be a little heavy, but the mousse lightens it up.

“It works really well, and it’s something different from the typical pumpkin pie.”

Another fabulous dessert to try at Rise and Shine Cafe is Key Lime Tart ($4.95), which is made with a graham-cracker crust base.

“The key lime filling is kind of like lime custard,” Pfeiffer explains. “So it’s kind of sweet and tart.”

After debuting the tart, Pfeiffer was amazed to see how many customers are big fans of key lime, and luckily for those patrons, Key Lime Tarts are available year-round.

Pfeiffer also says that key lime pie was one of her mom’s favorite desserts, which is why she adapted it into the single-serving tart featured at the eatery today.

Customers swoon over the restaurant’s Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting ($5.95 per slice, $42 whole pie) as well.

“Who doesn’t like chocolate and peanut butter?” Pfeiffer poses. “It really is like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup.”

This three-layer cake is definitely a favorite, as Pfeiffer says customers have told her not to take it off the menu.

“We always have the Key Lime Tart and Chocolate Cake,” she says. “People will be mad at me if we don’t have it.”
