It’s a Wrap on Breakfast!

Good morning, Ono readers! For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been told to eat a good breakfast, and for the longest time, up until now, I’ve dismissed that notion and had a million excuses not to: there’s no time to cook, no time to eat, no time to clean, and hundreds of emails to go through.

However, in an effort to live a healthier lifestyle and boost my metabolism, I now make breakfast a priority. On a daily basis, my breakfast usually consists of a half cup of plain oatmeal and a fruit. However, when I’m lucky, I love to indulge in hearty breakfast foods that I’m not able to enjoy every day.

This week, I bring to you a domination of breakfast wraps that reflect everything I could ever ask for in the morning. Breakfast wraps are easy to eat on-the-go, deliciously satisfying and for the most part, healthy.

Here, at the following Ono, You Know establishments, you’ll be eager to wake up to this superlative breakfast item. So, there you have it, it’s a wrap on breakfast!

Kit n Kitchen

Wrap yourself up in a bounty of morning masterpieces at Kit n Kitchen on University Avenue and start your weekend off right. Breakfast is available Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m., and most recently, owner Kit Yiu took me on a trip to flavor town, as he served up the restaurant’s most popular Breakfast Wrap ($8.95). This ideal breakfast for any food enthusiast features a warm tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, grilled chicken, ham, onion and zucchini layered with cheese, and served with a savory salsa sauce and roasted potatoes. Here, you get to experience all your breakfast favorites in one bite.

“The Breakfast Wrap has a lot of variety, so many customers order this dish,” says Yiu. “If you like wraps, we also have our Spinach Bacon Wrap.”

Priced at $9.50, the Spinach Bacon Wrap is stuffed to the brim with scrambled eggs, spinach, morsels of crispy bacon, onion, zucchini, mushrooms and cheese, and served with roasted potatoes and salsa. Absolutely delicious as well! There’s no questioning this breakfast choice because we all know everything tastes better with bacon.

Don’t skimp on the most important meal of the day. And with Kit n Kitchen, getting in a good breakfast is easy and delicious. What more could you ask for?

Beachhouse at The Moana

For an elegant dining experience that showcases only the best in modern classic cuisine, Beachhouse at The Moana is the answer. As one of The Moana Surfrider’s most beloved establishments, one would typically think to come here for dinner — it’s an opportunity to indulge in vibrant island-inspired cuisine of the finest quality steaks and fresh seafood. Specialties include artisan Pennsylvania Amish Raised Angus Beef and American Wagyu (Kobe style) beef. Yet, keep it mind, breakfast here is equally superb.

Chef de Cuisine at The Moana, William Chen, presented me with Beachhouse Breakfast Wrap ($19) available at The Veranda from 6 to 11 a.m. daily. It’s what Chen describes as a loaded omelette wrapped in a tortilla. So, wrap your head around this: Imagine fluffy scrambled eggs paired with applewood smoked bacon, Swiss, American and Cheddar cheeses, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms nestled in a spinach tortilla, and complemented by a homemade salsa and a side of skillet-browned potatoes and fresh ‘Nalo greens.

“When we were conceptualizing this dish, we definitely wanted to offer something that would speak to the Westin guest, which is why we use a spinach tortilla and a lot of fresh vegetables. It’s a healthier option,” Chen says. “This is one of the most popular items on our breakfast menu. People love wraps, and this breakfast wrap is actually an original item here at Beachhouse, and it’s still here — that’s because people keep asking for it, and it’s very recognizable.”

Kissaten Coffee Bar

From 6 to 11 a.m., Kissaten Coffee Bar on Piikoi Street is filled with early birds taking in their first meal of the day, or frankly, those who just love breakfast. This 24-hour coffee shop caters to all patrons regardless of schedules and diverse appetites. With breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night options, there’s always something available for you.

On my most recent mid-morning visit to Kissaten, I wanted nothing more than a hearty breakfast that I could really sink my teeth into, thus making way for Kissaten’s Breakfast Burrito ($8.25).

“We offer a lot of fast, on-the-go dishes, such as our homemade granola, but our Breakfast Burrito is a heartier option,” says Kissaten’s senior partner Neysa Taba. “We’ve had it on the menu since we opened two years ago and it remains a favorite.”

Peek into this breakfast favorite and unwrap a myriad of flavors, which permeate from the spinach tortilla wrap filled with scrambled eggs, breakfast sausage, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes.

I’m in love with this wrap, as it is a healthy alternative and provides a multitude of nutrients. Organic mixed greens splashed with the eatery’s signature balsamic soy vinaigrette accompanies the dish along with servings of sour cream and pico de gallo, composed of fresh tomatoes, red onions and lemon juice.

“People like to spread these toppings onto their burrito, and the pico de gallo is very refreshing,” Taba adds.

Kissaten’s Breakfast Burrito also is lightly pressed on the panini grill as an added touch to complete this mouth-watering entree, which Taba recommends enjoying with Kissaten’s new honey latte.
