ZPizza Salutes All Things Avocado

April and May are Taste of Avocado months at Zpizza, a time when the restaurant highlights the health benefits of eating avocado and encourages customers to try its many avocado dishes.

Some of the menu items owner Cesar Llarenas suggests at his Ward and Kailua locations are Pollo Latino Sandwich ($8.50) with marinated lime chicken breast, lettuce, salsa and avocado on fresh-baked baguette; and California Salad ($10.95 large, $7.95 small) featuring mixed greens, avocado, red onions, crisp cucumber, fresh tomatoes, black olives and your choice of dressing.

As for the pizza, it’s delicious and good for you. The ingredients are fresh and natural or certified organic. The dough is made from 100 percent organic wheat flour and is prepared fresh every day, hand-thrown and fire-baked to a perfect crunchy crisp. The tomato sauce is certified organic, the pepperoni is MSG-free and the sausage is additive-free.

There’s a great list of “Zpizza creations” to choose from, such as Mexican Pizza ($12.95 small, $23.95 large and $26.95 x-large), which is topped with salsa, mozzarella, spicy lime chicken, green onions, red onions, fresh avocado, sour cream and cilantro. Or you can build your own pizza and customize it with your preferred crust, sauce, cheese and toppings. And don’t forget the avocado, which can be added to any menu item.

“Avocado is a good source of vitamins and nutrients, including vitamin E, and can cut down cholesterol,” says Llarenas, noting that they use Hass avocado grown in California. “It’s healthy and tastes good.”
