In the nature of expressing the culture of Thailand, Bangkok Chef keeps it hot and keeps it spicy with its customer favorite, Thai Green Curry.
“The taste is like nothing else and that’s why this dish sells more than any other — except maybe for our Pad Thai,” owner Patrick Chang says with a laugh. “The Green Curry just has that spicy, good taste to it — it basically sells itself.”
Priced at $7.95 in-house and $6.65 takeout, Thai Green Curry combines bites of eggplant, chicken slices, green peas and bamboo shoots with Bangkok Chef’s sizzling curry sauce, which is a mix of green chili paste, coconut milk and a blend of certain herbs and spices.
Now with three locations, Chang points out that Bangkok Chef was not always a restaurant. “We started as a produce market in Nuuanu where our first restaurant is. My wife Sansani and I sold Thai ingredients along with vegetables and dry goods, and we made some Thai food samples too,” he says.
Unlike most Thai restaurants, Bangkok Chef likes to keep its menu fresh and simple. Offering 33 menu items, it is easy to find a new favorite each time you visit.
“Some restaurants have over 100 dishes and a lot won’t get cooked for months. Here nothing will stay without people ordering — everything is fresh and is part of our daily rotation,” says Chang, who asks everyone to check out bangkokchefexpress.com for updated menu items.
