If you love donburi, then you’ll definitely want to visit the newly opened Sakura Terrace at 1240 S. King St. between Piikoi and Keeaumoku streets.
The classy, casual restaurant opened its doors a month ago, and offers tasty food at reasonable prices in a very welcoming setting. Customers also will be pleased with the beautiful presentation, nice size portions, complimentary green tea, a friendly staff, free parking and even the chairs are noticeably comfortable.
“The concept is really simple — good food, great prices and a relaxing atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating,” says marketing director Marilyn Cariaga. “We serve good Japanese food specializing in donburi.”
The restaurant’s signature dish is the Sakura Chirashi Sushi Don ($18) prepared with ahi, yellow-tail, salmon, ikura, uni, sushi rice mixed with grilled salmon flakes, sesame seeds and nori. Also popular is the Spicy Ahi & Ikura Don ($13.50) consisting of spicy ahi, ikura, sushi rice, sesame seeds, nori, an original jalapeno shoyu sauce and tobiko. And a must-try appetizer is the Unagi Oshi Zusi ($13.50) featuring a rectangular-shaped pressed sushi rice topped with freshwater eel, avocado, radish sprout and cream cheese.
There’s also a cafe menu with espresso, coffee and homemade desserts, including a toothsome Flan ($5.50) that is just the perfect addition to complete your meal.
“We use fresh, healthy ingredients and high-quality seafood,” notes Cariaga. “The response has been very positive. We already have many return customers. They seem to enjoy the experience.”
