The care and dedication that goes into every meal at ZPizza makes it feel more like a momand-pop pizza shop than the California-based international franchise that it is. “We put a lot of quality ingredients into our food,” says Cesar Llarenas, who opened the Ward Centre and Kailua locations in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

Specializing in a variety of gourmet pizzas, salads and sandwiches, the establishment offers many healthy options made from natural and organic ingredients, as well as a variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. Some of its newest limited-time offers (available until Jan. 31) perfectly display the ZPizza approach.

Imagine a pizza-like creation that’s been folded, mimicking the popular way to eat a big slice. Enter the Piada ($7.95), a delicious Northern Italian flatbread filled with savory flavor combinations, designed exclusively for the eatery. The same organic flour that goes into the famed crispy pizza crust is used to prepare the flatbread. “It’s probably the thinnest of all the crusts we sell,” explains Llarenas.

One of the two exclusive flavors is the Chicken Parmesan Piada ($7.95), filled with marinara, chicken, Parmesan cheese and garnished with a bundle of fresh arugula. The Roasted Veggie Piada ($7.95) is a refreshing vegetarian option, filled with basil pesto, goat cheese, roasted veggies (eggplant, red peppers and zucchini), balsamic vinaigrette, and a heap of fresh basil.

Now until Dec. 24, when you buy one regular-priced Piada, you’ll receive a second Piada for 50 percent off.

The colorful Fresco Apple Salad ($8.50/$10.95) is another limited-time offer made with Waipoli mixed greens, dried cranberries, Gala apples, goat cheese, toasted almonds and balsamic dressing.

“A lot of people say, ‘oh, I would eat salad more if it always tasted like this,'” says Llarenas.

What really makes the salad special, however, is the thoughtful preparation that goes into it. To ensure the locally grown lettuce stays plump and vibrant, the greens go through an extensive process of soaking and refrigeration for 24 hours, “to refresh the lettuce, because it is still alive after it is cut,” he adds.

This dedication to quality is evident in the bursts of full and fresh flavor in every ZPizza bite.
