About 20,000 people will be running through the streets of Waikiki next Sunday (Dec. 11) for the Honolulu Marathon. But before they show up for the grueling 26.2-mile run, participants traditionally fuel up by carbo loading in the days leading up to the race.
For the past 10 years, Wailana Coffee House has been offering Honolulu Marathon Specials. Dec. 8-10, from 5 p.m. to midnight, enjoy an All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti with Meat Sauce dinner, including all-you-can-eat salad bar and Parmesan garlic bread for $9.95. Also, on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 9 and 10), enjoy a Pasta Buffet from 5 to 8:30 p.m. featuring three types of pasta (spaghetti, spinach fettucini and rainbow rotini), and three types of sauces (tomato and herb pasta sauce, red pasta sauce with seasoned ground beef, Friday night only there’s a white cream sauce full of bay shrimp, clams and mahi mahi.) Saturday night only Italian sausage in a red pasta sauce and meat-balls is offered. The buffet dinner also includes salad bar, fruit cocktail or soup of the day, Parmesan bread and corn cobettes.
“The meat sauce with seasoned ground beef, as well as the white cream sauce with shrimp, clams and mahi mahi are original recipes of our chef Peter Cheng,” says general manager Kenton Tom. “The meat sauce is on our regular menu and is one of the popular dishes. The other sauces are not normally offered.”
