Newly opened this past June, Kaew’s Thai Villa in Kalihi boasts a refreshing and healthy menu of traditional and original Thai dishes and meals. Chef Kaew Anuttsara knew when she opened, that health and wellness had to be an intricate piece of each menu item. Studying and cooking internationally, she gained an understanding of and enjoyment for the preparation and taste of fresh, ingredients that are good for the mind and body.
“This is authentic and healthy Thai food. We use fresh vegetables that we get daily. We don’t use any MSG, period. We only use light oils and try to use very little oil at all. We just want to try and help people eat healthy, too,” Anuttsara says.
A good example of Chef Kaew’s healthy expertise is the Spicy Ginger fish fillet (pad path pla) served for $10.50. The fresh fillet of sea bass is the focal point of this dish, but the flavoring and spices that surround the fish make this dish pop. Laid on a bed of long beans, peas and onions, the lightly cooked sea bass marinates in sliced, fresh ginger and basil with curry sauce, which is delightfully light, packed with just enough heat and spice. Topping the dish are fresh, colorful bell peppers.
“This dish is fresh and healthy — for someone who loves fish and vegetables, this is perfect,” says Anuttsara.
Kaew’s Thai Villa also caters each meal to everyone, as they can make any dish on the menu a vegetarian meal.
“Everything here can be vegetarian and we are happy to do it. We know a lot of people like tofu or vegetables and we can certainly do that,” she adds.
