If you’re a fish lover who prefers to see them while snorkeling or on a visit to the aquarium rather than on your plate, then the name Wahoo’s Fish Taco may give you a sinking feeling. But once you’ve checked out the menu, you’ll want to dive right in.
“It’s really easy to eat here if you’re a vegan or vegetarian,” says co-owner Stephanie Gambetta.
That’s because Wahoo’s “California-Mex” lard-free tacos, burritos, enchiladas, bowls and more are offered with “your choice of filling.” So while the carnivore next to you may order a Outer Reef Burrito — flour tortilla stuffed with ahee rice, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, savory black or spicy Cajun white beans and flame-broiled fish topped with fresh salsa ($7.99) — non meat-eaters can order the same burrito and substitute mushrooms, banzai veggies or tofu for the fish.
And to further whet your veggie-loving appetite, the casual surf-style eatery also has a variety of salads. The 7 Layer Salad is very popular here, with brown rice, black or spicy Cajun white beans, cheese, guacamole, shredded lettuce and cabbage, and salsa. It can be ordered as is ($6.99) or with tofu (add $3).
There’s an ocean full of options at Wahoo’s, so you can order your food just the way you like it — and let the fish just swim away.
