Honoring the family-style essence of catering is what Fukuya is all about. Sometimes in the current age of quick and easy meals the value of preparation and choice falls by the wayside. However, patrons of Fukuya are still able to enjoy an okazuya-style cuisine where they may take their time to choose exactly which side dishes will make up their meal. Whether it be noodles, beef teriyaki, shoyu pork, shrimp tempura, inari sushi, namasu or any of the other dozens of choices, Fukuya is dedicated to the traditional means of catering to their guests.
“I do think the okazuya-style is becoming less common to find. Here you pick your own plate and that may take a little more time, but that’s part of being able to choose exactly what you want,” says Fukuya president Arrison Iwahira. “We try to keep it family oriented.”
Meal prices vary according to the items you choose, and range from 75 cents for a plain musubi to $3 for miso butterfish. And, as much as Fukuya specializes in serving to its individual guests, it also has been offering its catering services to the public since 1938.
“A lot of people that come in just for lunch don’t know we do catering and vice-versa,” adds Iwahira. Some of Fukuya’s most popular catering items include their assorted sushi trays which come in pieces of 43 for $29, 74 pieces for $47 or 101 pieces for $59. Other favorites for your big party or gathering are the fried chicken or shoyu chicken. Fukuya also can deliver your catered meals, but delivery charges apply.
