In the mood for spicy-hot? There’s Mexican, Thai, Szechuan … and, of course, ever-popular Korean food. Vegetable rich and full of flavor, it’s no wonder Korean cuisine tops the list of favorites for many of us. And for those who choose not to eat meat, Richo Korean restaurant in Kaimuki has a lot to offer — spicy hot or not.

“All things we have, we can do vegetarian,” says Richo assistant manager Ayako Hanzawa. “We have a lot of things we can do without meat.”

For instance, the Hot Stone Bibimbap ($9) is a bowlful of goodness with a healthy mix of vegetables including spinach, bean sprouts, carrots and royal fern sauteed in a sesame oil-laced spicy sauce and served atop white rice. It comes hot to the table, where the server mixes the vegetables to the customer’s taste — from fiery hot to mild, it’s up to you. The bowl is topped with egg yolk, so when ordering, feel free to request the dish be prepared without it, and the chef will be glad to accommodate you.

So set your sights on Richo to spice up your life. It’s easy to satisfy your cravings when you know where to look.
