Many dishes on Kit n Kitchen’s menu combine the boldness of European cuisine with the subtle satisfaction of Asian flair. One such dish, the Spicy Ground Beef and Eggplant, started over a decade ago, although that dish has since evolved into other varieties, including the Spicy Ground Beef and the Ground Beef with Shrimp.
“If you ask where the origins come from, it’s more like a twist between Euro and Asian,” says May Yiu, wife of Kit n Kitchen owner Kit Yiu, of the restaurant’s many dishes.
The key to this blend of European and Asian cooking, according to May Yiu, is complementing each style harmoniously.
“The tomato side of the dish is definitely Italian or European, and the Asian part is more light. Italian dishes are normally very thick, very rich and we try to add the lighter, Asian side to the meal as well,” says Yiu.
The Ground Beef with Shrimp ($11.95) is simple in its combination. It starts with a bed of pasta, normally spaghetti, but some customers do order linguine. “We recommend a thinner pasta because this sauce is light, and if you use a thicker pasta it cannot handle the sauce,” she adds.
On top of the pasta lies chef Yiu’s signature ground beef tomato sauce, which includes low-fat lean beef and garlic olive oil. The shrimp is prepared very simply, quickly sauteed and arranged on top of the sauce.
“The taste is really intense and it’s also natural with the blending of tomato and garlic. This is one of our favorite dishes, ” says Yiu.
The Ground Beef with Shrimp is served for both lunch and dinner.
