Known throughout the islands as one of Hawaii’s favorite local-kine diners, Zippy’s is legendary for its spectacular specials. Some are brand-new, being introduced for the first time as delicious additions to the menu. Others are returning favorites, brought back by popular demand.

To start off, you can help Hawaii’s Boy Scouts and satisfy your hunger at the same time with the purchase of a Kokua Pac. Additionally, Scout cut-outs are available for $1 each at all Zippy’s locations, and look for donation canisters at each location as well. For info on the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council, visit scoutinghawaii.org.

If you’re craving something sweet and seasonally delicious, head to Napoleon’s Bakery for a celebration of strawberries!

This month, Strawberry Cloud Cakes ($11.75, 6-inch cake), Strawberry Cream Cheese Napples ($2.95 each), and Strawberry Coffee Cake Squares ($2.45 each) will be featured at all bakery locations. Not a berry fan? Try a Chocolate Long John ($2.25 each) to satisfy your sweet tooth! Treats are available while supplies last, through Sept. 30.

Regular guests will be pleased to see the return of a few favorites, back for a limited time only. Taco Salad ($10.75, fast food; $12.35, restaurant; not available at Zippy’s Express) is a hearty salad topped with seasoned taco meat, served with housemade nacho chips. The Pastrami Sandwich ($11.85) and the Pastrami Melt ($12.85) are perfect for lunchtime enjoyment; they’re available only in the restaurant. Hurry, though; all these nostalgic items will only be offered through Oct. 31.

Finally, for those who are always eager to try something new, Zippy’s Country Chicken with Mushroom Gravy plate ($12.25, fast food; $14.10, restaurant) is being introduced this month. This delicious new plate will be available through the end of September on Fridays during specials hours, while supplies last.

THE KOKUA PAC IS BACK!

Loaded with Portuguese sausage, Korean chicken, teriyaki hot dog and a slice of Spam, Zippy’s Kokua Pac ($8.15, fast food; $9.35, restaurant) will be available through Sept. 30. A portion of the proceeds from each Kokua Pac sold will be donated to the Boy Scouts of America Aloha Council.

LIGHT BUT FLAVORFUL

Zippy’s Oxtail Style Turkey Neck Soup is a terrific choice for folks who love the classic oxtail version. “It’s similar in taste to our traditional Oxtail Soup, but leaner in flavor, and priced affordably!” says marketing manager Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki. Try a bowl for $8.95 at the fast food window or $10.25 in the restaurant between 10:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. daily through Oct. 31.

THE MIXED PLATE

Back for a limited time only, this local delight, for $9.95 fast food and $11.45 in the restaurant, is an old favorite, with teri beef, chicken katsu and Zippy’s famous chili.

FLAVOR OF THE MONTH

All over the world, strawberries are cultivated for their mouthwatering aroma, lovely color, sweetness and versatility. Through the end of September, a variety of baked goods with the favored fruit will be sold at all Napoleon’s Bakery locations.
