Catering to Your Thanksgiving Fixings

Are you dreading Thanksgiving because of all the turkey roasting, basting and cooking that is usually associated with the holiday? A Catered Experience’s Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Package ($89.95 plus tax) provides a delicious and convenient Thanksgiving dinner option that will save you time, stress and cooking.

For the last 15 years, A Catered Experience has sold the Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Package, according to catering manager Ron Hattori. Customers must pre-order the package before Thanksgiving Day, as it has sold-out during the past couple of years. A Catered Experience usually sells about 900 packages every year.

“Nine hundred (packages) is close to our limit,” Hattori says. “The final week (of Thanksgiving), we do a countdown (of the packages).”

The Hot Oven Roasted Turkey package features entrees, appetizers and desserts characteristic of any traditional Thanksgiving meal. An 8-10 pound tender, moist, whole roast turkey is packaged hot, fully cooked and ready to eat. Also included in the package are poultry gravy (4 pounds), real mashed potatoes (4 pounds), stuffing (3 pounds), cranberry/pineapple relish (1 pound), dinner rolls (one dozen) and a Napoleon’s Bakery Pumpkin Pie. Simple reheating instructions are provided for the accompaniments (gravy, real mashed potatoes and stuffing).

For those who want to add to their Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Package, a variety of accompaniments (in addition to the ones already included in the package) are available. These additional items include an uncut maki sushi roll ($4), Napoleon’s Bakery Custard or Apple Pies ($7.50 each) or two pounds of Chicken Nishime ($12), a Japanese-style stew composed of chicken, konyaku, carrots, lotus root, taro balls, bamboo shoots, gobo and shiitake mushrooms, simmered in an Osaka-style broth. Customers also can order more quantities of the items that already come in the package — such as the dinner rolls ($4.50/one dozen), real mashed potatoes ($6), poultry gravy ($5), stuffing ($7.50) and cranberry/pineapple relish ($3).

“(The maki) sushi is the No. 1 most popular additional accompaniment to the package,” Hattori says. “Nishime, gravy and pies are also popular.”

Customers can pay for their Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Packages using checks or credit cards; cash payments must be made in person at A Catered Experience’s Waipio office. Call A Catered Experience at 677.7744 to make arrangements.

The Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Packages are available for pick-up on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24) from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Hawaii Okinawa Center parking lot, located at 94-587 Ukee St. in Waipio.

“Go to the Okinawa Center, and in the parking lot, we will have a tent set up,” Hattori says. “Just drive in; you don’t even have to get out of your car. Show your receipt to our staff and we’ll load the package for you.”

The Hot Oven Roasted Turkey Packages are just one of many services available through A Catered Experience.
