Finding great saimin at Boulevard Saimin has been a local tradition since Toshiaki Tanaka and his mother, Kazuko, opened their doors in 1956. Now, Toshiaki’s daughter Joan Watanabe and husband, Paul, proudly continue to serve recipes from Boulevard Saimin at “Tanaka Saimin” on Nimitz Highway. On October 10, 2010, Tanaka Saimin first opened and is approaching their 12th anniversary. Tanaka Saimin’s ‘Ohana looks forward to many more years to come and continue the tradition of serving delicious Saimin and other local favorites!
At Tanaka Saimin, we serve a variety of local comfort foods like burgers, mixed plates and sandwiches, however,
our best seller is saimin. Our Tanaka Saimin is our specialty, it’s a large wun tun min garnished with char siu, fishcake, nori and green onions served with shrimp tempura, a teri beef slice and your choice of either mac-potato or green salad
- all for the great price of $14.75!

Our Saimin is crafted the traditional
way and will take you back to old Hawaii, where you would find Saimin Stands in makeshift kitchens in home garages and customers would sit on wooden benches. Our Tanaka Saimin
is a shrimp and konbu base garnished with large wun tun, char siu, fish cake, nori and green onions served with a side of shrimp tempura, teri beef slice and chioce of mac-potato or green salad.
We wish to honor our past by continuing to serve our traditional local style
saimin and to invite a new generation of customers to taste what their parents ate when they were kids.
