      PALACE SAIMIN
Palace Saimin was the vision of a young entrepreneur, Kame Ige, who immigrated from Okinawa in 1924 and opened Palace Saimin in 1946. In the 50’s, the restaurant moved to Kalihi and then their current location. Later, in 1980, Mrs. Ige sold her restaurant to her trusted waitress, Setsuko Arakaki, who ran the business until 2010. And now, her daughter Susan Nakagawa manages and runs Palace Saimin with her husband Scott.
Setsuko and Yoshiko Takahashi, a trusted partner of Palace Saimin, would taste each batch and provide feedback as Susan and Scott continued to perfect the dashi recipe. After four months of brewing numerous pots per day, Setsuko and Yoshiko gave their approval and the recipe was finalized. Every morning the Palace ‘Ohana continues to make the dashi from scratch to ensure the consistency and quality, as well as, making approximately 400 BBQ sticks and 1,000 wontons by hand.
Wonton Min ($9.50 X-large) & BBQ stick ($3)
Our broth combines simple ingredients in order to create a harmonious blend of flavors leaving a light and savory broth paired with thick noodles. Our wonton adds a complimentary texture to your experience that many of our customers enjoy.
The Wonton Min is our best seller and is the perfect pair with a couple of BBQ sticks. Our food is simple, but a local comfort food. It’s not fancy, no wildly robust flavors, just familiar tastes in a purposely humble setting for you to relax, talk story and enjoy.
