  A la Carte
Let the ‘Sun’ shine in for breakfast
Story by DON ROBBINS M ahina & Sun’s at
The Surfjack —
serving breakfast, lunch and dinner — opened in spring 2016 and enjoyed the few successful years of operating in pre-pandemic 2020. Like many business- es, Mahina & Sun’s closed its doors on March 29 last year to brace for the impact of COVID-19. It is the restau- rant for The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club, and the hotel
never closed its doors. “And as the hotel began to rebound from the heavi- est impacted months of April and May, we opened back for

the hotel and public in June 2020,”saysgeneralmanager Lynette Eastman. “Of course, our strategy focused on pro- viding the dining amenity for the hotel guests. We began
casually serving what we call our ‘Lanai Menu’ from noon to 9 p.m. with a light fare such as pizzas, salads, sliders, hot dogs, taro burgers, fish sand- wiches and our delicious fa-
mous town ahi tartare,” East- man adds.
“As Hawaii, our nation, the world, begins to recover from the past year of COVID-19, we are excited to announce that Mahina & Sun’s is ready to bring back our casual breakfast menu daily starting from 8 a.m. to noon on March 1! Then, every day at noon we will switch to our Lanai Menu until 9 p.m.”
One delicious item at the eatery is the Morning Burrito ($14). It includes scrambled eggs, purple sweet potato, chorizo, poblano, cheddar and pureed charred salsa.
Another hearty
selection is the
Pork Adobo
Fried Rice ($17).
This mouthwa-
tering dish is
served with avocado, pick- led mushrooms, sesame kale, kimchi and over-easy eggs.
Every night, local residents and guests can enjoy Mahina Lounge LIVE! at The Surfjack. Entertainment is provided by Hawaii’s Finest, with their Re- vive the Live company.

                           Dear Hearts,
Celebrating traditions and holidays allows us to take a minute to reflect, remember and appreciate. Right now it is challenging to do so in large parties,
so use your imagination to
manipulate or abbreviate.
During this pandemic it is especially important to try and keep traditions alive. For a small amount of time they enable us to forget our troubles and to thrive!
Mahalo,
