A  CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: THE BIG KAT BURGER ($21)

Delicious home-cooked meals are at the heart of the Warren family’s fulfilling breakfast and lunch fare at Moke’s Bread & Breakfast.

Hungry customers have two Moke’s locations on Oahu to choose from, the newest site on 11th Avenue in Kaimuki, and the original eatery on Hoolai Street in Kailua.

Chef Moke Warren was born and raised on Oahu. He attended Kamehameha Schools and then graduated from the culinary program at Kapiolani Community College.

Following his educational career, he sharpened his food preparation skills at venerable Halekulani Hotel under the direction of noted George Mavrothalassitis, known as chef Mavro.

Warren and his wife, Teri, opened the first Moke’s in Kailua in 2004. Their children, Keola (who is also the restaurant brand manager) and Leilani assisted with the business, and the family commenced serving their delectable breakfast meals for Windward Oahu.

Among the hearty menu items available are sweetly satisfying Lilikoi pancakes. The restaurant’s signature pancakes are topped with an indulgent sauce made from passion fruit.

Meanwhile, the Loco Moke takes a local favorite to the next level, using house-cut ribeye instead of a hamburger patty.

Also, don’t forget to try the Reuben sandwich — featuring sliced corned beef with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing, all served up on dark rye bread.

Among one of the best benefits of Moke’s, many might agree on, is that breakfast is served all day. As for lunch, it is available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A REAL DEAL

The Big Kat Burger is being featured at the Kaimuki location of Moke’s Bread & Breakfast and in conjunction with its launch the company is offering a 15 percent off weekday lunch promotion. This will be going on until the end of the month on Jan. 31.

PILED HIGH

This masterpiece is packed with lettuce, onion, tomato, and a sunny-side-up egg for good measure. The burger is served on an artisan bun.

MASSIVE MOUTHFUL

The Big Kat Burger basically is a huge breakfast sandwich that starts with a 5-ounce hamburger patty, topped with savory cheese and crisp bacon.

HEARTY HASH

On top of the hamburger patty sits a homemade corned beef hash patty. It’s carefully crafted from scratch and consists of a well-balanced blend of brisket, potato and green onion.
