A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: WAKE UP SPECIAL ($5.95)

Have you ever wondered the etymology of the word “breakfast”? If you have and were curious to learn about it you would find it literally means to “break a fast.” With that said,

Moke’s Bread & Breakfast is just to place to recharge your mind and body with a fresh morning meal.

With two locations, one in Kailua and the other at its newest locale in Kaimuki, diners can enjoy breakfast until closing at 2 p.m., and also chow down on lunch options starting at 11 a.m.

Moke’s was founded by Moke Warren, who has a vast background in Hawaii’s culinary industry, having worked alongside the famous chef Mavro when Warren was a butcher at Halekulani Hotel.

The menu is full of locally sourced ingredients and special family recipes. Among one of those recipes is Moke’s pancakes.

Brand manager Keola Warren, also the son of Moke, says they are his grandma’s recipe. “Grandma used to make it for us every Sunday, for Grandpa (too),” shares Keola. “It’s something we grew up looking forward to every week.”

In addition to the nostalgia, Moke’s also creates fun culinary flavors such as its popular lilikoi sauce. While its ingredients remain a secret, Keola does divulge that the lilikois are brought in fresh from the Big Island allowing diners to embrace the purity of the tartness since the fruits are so fresh.

In continuing its effort to bring only the freshest and the bestest, Moke’s sources its coffee from Kailua Town Coffee Roasters who created an exclusive blend just for the restaurant. Its beans are grown at a Waialua estate on Oahu’s North Shore as well as brought in fresh from Maui.

LILIKOI JOY

Add some extra hype to your pancakes with Moke’s popular lilikoi sauce ($2 add-on to Wake Up Special) for a sweet, tangy experience.

BUT FIRST, COFFEE
