From fresh produce to delicious and sweet fruit, “Hawaii’s most complimented produce” is one of the many reasons why loyal customers visit Times Supermarkets.

With a commitment to “Grow local, support local and buy local,” Times Supermarkets is dedicated to the farmers who bring the fresh produce to fruition and local customers who have enjoyed their favorites for generations. With the Independence Day holiday approaching, it’s a perfect time to stop in at Times for all the necessary ingredients to feed hungry ohana.

“We always stress local, and do everything we can for our customers and to help our farmers here in Hawaii,” says Shane Hokama, Times produce director. “I work directly with our farmers on a weekly basis to determine what they have so we can plan in-store specials and advertised items that benefit our customers. That direct contact and the strong relationships with farmers have been priorities since Times opened generations ago.”

Customers at Times clamor for the sweet and juicy papaya from Kamiya Farms in Kahuku. An island staple since the 1950s, Kamiya Papaya is so popular that, when the new papayas are delivered on Wednesday at Oahu Times locations, customers are standing by waiting to pick out their favorite fruit.

“We’ve been doing business with Kamiya Farms for more than 40 years, and once you try the papaya, you’ll never forget the taste of it,” Hokama says.

Hokama also recommends a variety of produce from Kaneshiro Farms in Waianae Valley, an operation known for its cabbage. In addition to White Stem, Mustard and Shanghai Cabbage varieties, Times Supermarkets also features Beets and Kale (prices vary by variety) all grown and delivered fresh from the farm.

Aloun Farms in Kapolei produces some of the best watermelon and corn available, and fittingly, it’s ready to be enjoyed at Times Supermarkets. The seedless watermelon and bi-color corn is on special this week, just in time for Fourth of July.

Customers can strike gold with Dole Premium Pineapple grown in Central Oahu, and according to Hokama, “Summer is the best time to buy locally grown pineapple, it’s so sweet!”

“When you come to Times, we put local first — we make it a priority to carry local produce and other products first, and couple that selection with extraordinary value and customer service,” Hokama says. “Our employees go above and beyond to help our customers select and prepare certain items.”

SEEDLESS WATERMELON

Times Supermarkets carries delicious seedless watermelon from Aloun Farms. Pick up some juicy, flavorful watermelon on sale this week for just 79 cents per pound! These specials are available at Oahu Times locations, and prices may vary on neighbor islands.
