Known for its authentic Hong Kong-style Chinese cuisine, Canton Seafood Restaurant continues to be a local favorite for everyday lunch and dinner, as well as parties and special occasions.

Originally located in Chinatown, the restaurant moved to its current space on Keeaumoku Street near Ala Moana Center in 2011, and continues to build a loyal following of regular customers, including many who are Chinese, so you know the food is good.

The spacious dining room seats about 130 people, and there are multiple party menu options (designed for 10-12 people) ranging in price from $198-$398, plus a full bar.

The most popular is the $248 menu consisting of Seafood with Fish Maw Soup, Peking Duck (whole), House Special Chicken (whole), Live Lobster with Ginger and Onion, Shrimp Walnuts with Mayonnaise, Abalone with Black Mushroom and Vegetables, Tenderloin Steak with Spring Beans, Seafood Fried Rice and Dessert of the Day.

“Our party menus are very good in price, have big portions and feature a good combination of dishes,” says manager Henry Gong. “If someone doesn’t want to eat seafood, there’s meat. Or if they don’t want to eat meat, there’s seafood or vegetables. Also, if they want to change out a dish, we can work with them to change it.”

Gong also notes that Chinese customers seem to really like the $298 party menu because of the House Special Appetizer Platter, which has Pork Chop with Salt and Pepper, Jellyfish and Spring Rolls.

“Our Pork Chop is very well-known,” adds Gong. “People always say that we make the best one.”

The $298 party menu also includes Crab Meat with Fish Maw Soup, Peking Duck (whole), House Special Chicken (whole), Live Crab with Crispy Garlic (two), Shrimp Walnuts with Mayonnaise, Steamed Fresh Whole Fish with Ginger and Onion, Abalone with Black Mushroom and Vegetables, Chef’s Special Fried Rice and Dessert of the Day.

“We have a good environment — clean and comfortable,” says Gong. “Also, our food is healthy because we use less oil and less salt, and customers can request for no MSG. Chef always chooses good-quality food, meat and vegetables, and our prices are very reasonable.”

The restaurant also offers lunch specials (starting at $7.99, available 10 a.m.-2 p.m.), and daily promotions, such as Crispy Chicken for just $4.99 (half) or Live Lobster for $14.99 (choose to have it prepared with ginger and green onion, salt and pepper, black bean sauce, or steamed with butter and garlic) with the purchase of a regular-priced entree.
