Nothing beats local for fresh flavor, and at The Reef Bar & Market Grill, many of the ingredients are sourced straight from our island and surrounding ocean. Located in the beautiful Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, The Reef partners closely with local growers, ranchers and fishermen to serve dishes that make its menu memorable.

The Cold Seafood Tower ($65 for two tiers, $105 for three tiers) comes to mind, with fresh oysters, king crab legs, ahi and octopus. Sauces are made in-house, like the house cocktail sauce with wasabi, fennel tartar sauce, and chili water and ginger mignonette.

Another popular dish is Flat Stack Steak and Shrimp Nachos ($24), serving local Kauai shrimp. “You know how sometimes you order nachos and it’s piled so high that you can’t get any toppings at the bottom? We serve the nachos on a board, so every chip is covered with all the good toppings,” says chef Delia Romano. Those toppings are a black bean hummus, trio cheese, homemade roasted salsa, guacamole, pico de gallo, grilled jalepenos and a lime crema.

One of the must-try experiences at The Reef is grilling your own meats.

Available during dinner, customers can select their protein at the butcher case and choose from one of four different rubs. After choosing, you take the meat to the grill where the grill master will cook the meat to your liking. You can also opt to ask the chef to cook it for you in the kitchen, but most people enjoy the interactive experience.

Ribeye Steak ($42) weighs in at 12 ounces and is a well-marbled, good cut of meat that many guests enjoy. “We also have six sauces that we make in-house,” says Romano.

Romano hints at new vegan options coming up in a few weeks — she is a vegan herself — and also is excited about the recent launch of a new lunch and dinner menu with items like grilled kabobs and spicy chicken sandwiches.
