A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: THE ULTIMATE TOFU-VEGGIE OMELET ($14.49)
This year, Big City Diner celebrates two decades of serving patrons local favorites, like baby back ribs with its famous guava barbecue sauce, as well as healthy options in accordance with the Blue Zone Project. Starting in 1998, the restaurant opened its first location in Kaimuki before expanding to include five more spots around the island — Ward Entertainment Center, Waipio Shopping Center, Pearlridge East, Kailua and Windward Mall.
Big City Diner continues to deliver quality ingredients into every dish made from famous local creations to specialty items featured on weekday specials that alternate each week. Try the weekly breakfast special — this week is Breakfast Quesadilla with Homemade Salsa — served from 7 a.m. until it sells out, or stop in during the first hour of service to snag this breakfast deal: The Super-Duper Early-Bird Special ($5.49 with a purchase of a beverage) served on weekdays only (not including holidays). Seniors ages 65 and older can enjoy this special Monday-Friday from opening to 10 a.m.
Over the years, Big City Diner has become the go-to destination for locals to enjoy a casual sit-down meal with family or to pick up platters for their milestone events. If you’re planning an upcoming graduation party at home, go “Big” with Big City Diner’s catering menus available on its website or call for more info. You can even bring the gang to a location near you to enjoy ample patio seating for groups of 35-50. What’s more, the Windward location features a private room that can hold up to 50 people.
A serving of brown rice, a side of whole-wheat toast and honey, and a choice of 100 percent orange juice or fresh whole bean coffee from Hawaii Coffee Co. round out this morning meal.
A ‘BIG’ START
Fuel your day the healthy way with one of the many good-for-you meals — like this egg white omelet — available at Big City Diner, which is in accordance with the Blue Zone Project, a large-scale initiative that makes healthy choices easier for communities in the U.S.
The egg white omelet is filled with fresh and nutritious mushrooms, spinach, local tomatoes, broccoli florets and sweet onions that are smothered with real Wisconsin Jack and cheddar cheeses and complemented with firm bits of tofu.
Big City Diner aims to serve fresh, quality ingredients, evident in this dish, which showcases local Kunia tomatoes among other garden-fresh pickings.
