Even with our year-round tropical weather, summertime in Hawaii still offers a special feel that brings excitement to everyone, especially when planning a day of outdoor activities.

Hot summer days spent playing in the refreshing salty waters of the Pacific, or hiking the several trails of the Koolau Mountain range can build up massive appetites. Thankfully, Kau Kau Grill sits faithful, ready to appease such hunger woes.

Get ready to grind generous portions of protein and its accompaniments that are fresh off the grill and cooked to order by the friendly and talented staff of the establishment.

Popular, mouthwatering bites include Smoked Meat plate ($9 mini, $12 regular) and Pulehu Beef Short Ribs ($9 mini, $12 regular). There also are combination plates such as Fried Saimin Combo ($14) that comes with a choice of one entree from the list of Barbecue Baby Back Ribs, Garlic Shrimp, Pulehu Beef Short Ribs, Garlic Ahi, Smoked Meat, Garlic Chicken or Teri Chicken.

When Dining Out stopped by, the Fried Saimin Combo came stacked with finger-licking-good Barbecue Baby Back Ribs, beautifully slathered in Kau Kau Grill’s homemade sauce. The meat was so tender it slid right off the bone with a little poke of the fork, making for a mess-free meal — if that’s what you are looking for; otherwise, digging right in with your fingers is part of the fun, too!

As if that weren’t enough reason to try out this eatery, the staff at Kau Kau advises customers to be on the look out for a little something extra with its daily specials that will be popping up every so often — such as steaming and savory Beef Stew, just to whet your appetite.
