Eggs Benedict ($13.25, breakfast)

Familiar food, familiar faces. A local favorite for decades, New Eagle Cafe is known for its local-style comfort food and friendly staff. On the menu is an extensive list of local, American and Japanese dishes, including some original recipes from when the restaurant opened.

Among the signature dishes is Chinese Steamed Fish ($18.98, available for lunch and dinner) made with your choice of opakapaka, mahimahi or ono; and served with a tasty shoyu ginger sauce, vegetables and your choice of rice, mashed potatoes or french fries.

Loco Moco ($10.25, breakfast; $12.50, lunch and dinner)

Also a top seller is Loco Moco ($10.25 breakfast, $12.50 lunch and dinner) consisting of a homemade hamburger patty with two eggs, homemade gravy and your choice of white or brown rice.

The restaurant also started offering its popular Eggs Benedict ($13.25) for breakfast daily (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-noon; Saturday-Sunday, 6 a.m.-noon).

“Before, we just had it on the weekends, but a lot of people would request it, so we have it every day now,” explains Maria Dona, who has worked at New Eagle Cafe for more than 15 years. The Eggs Benedict comes with two pieces of English muffin topped with poached egg, smoked ham and homemade Hollandaise sauce, and served with your choice of rice, hash browns or toast (or substitute for fried rice for an additional $1.75).

Conveniently located at Nimitz Center along Nimitz Highway (with free parking), the landmark eatery has served multiple generations of customers, including many regulars who have become like family.

“We have a lot of original employees too,” adds Dona. “Most of the people in the kitchen are original cooks, and in the front we have some that have been here since the original owner.”

The restaurant changed ownership about five years ago, but Dona assures that customers can expect the same great food and excellent service.

“We kept the menu the same because that’s what the customers want,” she says.

“We really appreciate all of our regular customers that have been coming here for so many years.”

New Eagle Cafe also has daily specials, and a special kids eat free Monday promotion. Children age 10 and under can receive one free meal from the kids menu with the purchase of an adult entree.
