Custom, handmade logo candies

After a busy day of shopping at Ala Moana Center, one may think to stay within the mall for a bite to eat, however, for a truly soul-soothing selection of dishes, head just across the street to Manichi Ramen.

Situated on Kona Street, the eatery is well known for its authentic Japanese ramen, as well as its award-winning gyoza and variety of appetizers and specialty items found only at the eatery, such as the gyoza burger, for example.

Furthermore, find on the menu a number of ways to enjoy its gyoza, such as the Four Topping Deluxe Gyoza ($8). The dish starts with the eatery’s gyoza that’s then topped with piles of crispy bean sprouts, green onion, karamiso (spicy miso), benishoga (pickled ginger) and a Japanese mayonnaise sauce.

It’s a perfect addition to a bowl of ramen or for bar food, with accompanying appetizers of takoyaki, chicken tatsuta karaage or edamame, to name a few.

And as a sweet treat, enjoy the eatery’s handmade candies, customized to feature the restaurant’s logo, which a server will drop off to you at the end of your meal. When Dining Out stopped by, the flavor was Ramune, a Japanese carbonated soft drink.

TALKING ABOUT TAKOYAKI

Manichi Ramen has everything you need for any mood you’re in, and when you’re craving some “bar-friendly” fare or an accompaniment to a bowl of slurp-worthy ramen, try Takoyaki (five pieces) for $5.50. These ball-shaped Japanese snacks are filled with tako (octopus), deep-fried then topped with green onions, mayonnaise and a sweet tonkatsu sauce. Enjoy these bites yourself or share them with friends at the table, along with other appetizers.
