Garlic Miso Chicken Salad ($9.95, restaurant only)

With the summer heat and soaring temperatures here in the Islands, Zippy’s Restaurants is rolling out yet another popular giveaway to help local diners chill out.

Zippy’s is offering the Nihon-Go? Giveaway throughout August, and the grand-prize winner will receive a trip for two to Japan for the Hokkaido Snow Festival Land Tour next February. The popular tour is hosted by KSSK’s Sweetie Pacarro and is courtesy of Non-Stop Travel Hawaii.

Peanut Butter French Toast ($7.95, restaurant only)

To coincide with the Japan giveaway, Zippy’s is serving up an ono Garlic Miso Chicken plate ($8.12 fast-food counter, $9.35 dine-in restaurant; prices vary at neighbor-island locations) available from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. now through Aug. 31. This local favorite includes fried marinated chicken topped with a savory miso sauce, miso mayonnaise, green onions and sesame seeds. The plate also includes rice and mac salad.

In support of Hawaii United Okinawa Association and its annual Okinawan Festival (Sept. 2-3), Zippy’s is offering a duo of special dishes inspired by favorites sold at the cultural festival.

Garlic Miso Chicken ($8.12 fast food, $9.35 restaurant)

Zip Dog with Shoyu Pork ($8.83 fast food, $9.75 restaurant) features Zippy’s chili, hot dog, shoyu pork and tossed greens wrapped in a flour tortilla. Diners also can look for Shoyu Pork ($11.94 fast food, $13.75 restaurant), a plate composed of boneless pork that is cubed and slowly cooked in a sweet-shoyu marinade before being served with rice and macaroni salad (corn in the restaurant). These specials are available from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. through Sept. 1, and 25 cents from each Shoyu Pork plate and Zip Dog sold will be donated to Hawaii United Okinawa Association.

In other news, Zippy’s featured salad of the month is Garlic Miso Chicken Salad ($9.95 restaurant only), available now through Aug. 31. The tasty item is built with fresh Kunia Farms aquaponics-grown greens and topped with golden-fried marinated chicken as well as tomato wedges, cucumber medallions, green onions and sesame seeds. Miso sauce and miso mayonnaise are then drizzled atop the salad to complete the dish.

Zip Dog with Shoyu Pork ($8.83 fast-food counter, $9.75 dine-in restaurant) and Shoyu Pork Plate (11.94 fast food, $13.75 restaurant);

Whether you prefer dessert for breakfast, or breakfast for dessert, Zippy’s has a new sweet treat waiting to be enjoyed with any meal. Peanut Butter Pancakes, Waffle and French Toast ($7.95 apiece, restaurant-only) is available through Aug. 31. The dessert serves as the perfect end to one’s dining experience, or as a sweet snack in the middle of the day. A rich peanut butter sauce smothers one’s choice of either golden, fluffy pancakes, crisp Belgian waffle or Zippy’s new sweet bread French toast. Your delectable selection is accompanied by whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream — the perfect remedies for the sweltering summer heat.
