A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEKai??i??S HOUSE SPECIAL: MIXED GRILL STEAK ($15.95)

For many folks, there’s always that one neighborhood eatery that you find yourself frequenting throughout the week because, when it comes down to it, simple, quality comfort food will always trump the latest and over-the-top food trends.

For Fairwood Drive Inn & Pho 27 Cafe, the nearly 6-year-old dual dining establishment in Kaimuki Shopping Center caters to the valued patrons that have become regulars, emphasizing the heart of the business, which has always been about building a relationship with the community and bringing joy through good food.

As Dining Out sat down with owner Tiffany Ko, she stopped to address a parting patron, saying, “Thank you! See you again!”

And there’s no doubt that they will indeed be back again. It’s hard not to, what with all the irresistible dishes offered at the dine-in side of the eatery, Pho 27 Cafe. There are many sizzling platters, for instance — like the meat-filled Mixed Grill Steak — not to mention a number of specialty phos, including Oxtail Pho and Pig Feet Pho.

“We have four different types of cuisine (across both restaurants): Chinese, local, Vietnamese and Hong Kong-style,” explains Ko.

If you’re looking for a quick bite on the go, Fairwood Drive Inn, which fronts the space, offers up shareable options ranging from Salt and Pepper Pork Chop to Jai — the latter of which is typically only served during Chinese New Year at other restaurants.
