LET’S TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Shrimp with Honey Roasted Walnuts ($13.95)

To most passersby, Asian Mix, located beneath Safeway on South Beretania Street, could be just another takeout joint selling typical Asian fare. But if you step inside and take a chance on the food, you won’t be disappointed. In fact, from the first bite to the last, you’ll be hooked!

Owner Daniel Leung shares the preparation and cooking processes of some of Asian Mix’s most popular dishes, revealing why the food is a notch above the rest in taste and quality.

For example, the restaurant, which also offers catering, goes to great lengths to make its renowned Roast Duck Hong Kong Style ($12.50, half), preparing only a limited, and highly coveted, amount each day.

The procedure includes overnight soaking and marinating, and then calculated steps for roasting and hanging. The same care is given to all of Asian Mix’s menu items, especially with favorites such as Shrimp with Honey Roasted Walnuts, Taiwanese Beef Noodle and Curry Chicken (not on menu).

Also, during these hot summer days in Hawaii Nei, grab a refreshing drink at the eatery’s Tea Time corner. Order from a long list of available yogurt, bubble tea and iced tea drinks.
