At Aja, it’s all about sharing yummy old family recipes that keep customers coming back for more.
Known for its Korean sushi and bento boxes, including its famous Garlic Chicken, Shoyu Chicken and Pork Adobo, the convenient takeout spot was founded in 1999 by Celine and Jimmy Yoo. The restaurant has since relocated and expanded to three locations on Oahu (Ala Moana Center, Ala Moana Building and University of Hawaii Campus Center), and the couple’s daughter Lauren and son Ethan have joined the family business as general managers.
When ordering a customizable bento at Aja, choose Mini Bento ($7.49, includes one main entrée, two sides and white or brown rice), Two Choice Bento ($12.49, two main entrees, three sides and white or brown rice) or Three Choice Bento ($15.49, three main entrees, three sides and white or brown rice).
One popular offering to put in your bento is Roast Beef, a family recipe from one of the restaurant’s longtime staffers. Slow roasted with a variety of spices, the meat is tender and flavorful, and served with brown gravy.
Aja also has a great selection of ready-made Mini Bentos that are especially popular for a grab-and-go lunch or dinner, as well as for sports games and meetings.
SPICE UP YOUR DIET
Among Aja’s newer main dishes perfect for a bento selection is Korean Spicy Chicken Wings with a tasty blend of spiciness and sweetness. “My mom made this for our staff, and our staff said this is good, so we added it to the menu and so far it’s been doing really well,” says general manager Lauren Yoo.
