Great food, like great art, thrives on regular infusions of inspiration.
The owners of Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant frequently travel to Asia for new culinary ideas, sampling delicious dim sum variations in the great halls and teahouses of Hong Kong. Their research invariably results in the debut of a few uniquely tasty new dishes here in Honolulu.
“They always bring ideas back to share, and they ask the chef to make something from his imagination with fresh seasonal ingredients,” says the restaurant’s general manager, Gary Chan.
The season’s new dim sum offerings include Curry Beef Dumplings ($4.60 for three pieces), made with beef flank steak and white pepper. Served hot, these little pockets of heaven include a mild and delectable curry sauce.
Also being offered for the first time on the dim sum menu: Stuffed Eggplant with Fish Mousse ($4.60 for three pieces). In this dish, a trio of aubergine discs is topped with a mousse made with flounder and mahi, and flavored with Chinese parsley.
“It is a Jade Dynasty tradition to create new items for islanders,” adds Chan. “We’ve been doing that for the past six years.”
When this elegant eatery opened its ornate doors in January 2001, it quickly established itself as Honolulu’s premier banquet-sized Chinese restaurant. In a space that includes 8,000 square feet, a 32-foot stage, and seven private rooms complete with audio and video systems, Jade Dynasty can easily accommodate large groups and private parties, while offering an authentic Hong Kong-style family dining experience in stylish surroundings.
Dim sum is served daily at Jade Dynasty from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. With more than 70 distinctively different offerings on the menu, there’s something here for every palate.
