What’s more exciting than the smell of freshly baked bread, croissants, pastries, Danishes and tarts? The frequent addition of new varieties of each, of course! Owner and chef Niel Koep makes sure to keep new menu items on the shelves for customers to try at his European-style bakery, Fendu Boulangerie.

Although customers have their favorites — such as Lychee Danish, Fuji Apple Pie and Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich — that are permanent items in Fendu’s display cases menu, Koep introduces specials on a regular basis to keep things fresh and exciting.

Take, for instance , Smoked Turkey Croissant ($3.99). The flaky palm-sized treat is stuffed with perfectly salted turkey, chevre (goat cheese) and a healthy helping of Fendu’s homemade pesto — the latter of which includes macadamia nuts.

Or, try out Brie Cheese in Brioche ($4.25). The French creation replaces water with creamy egg to give the bread a dense, sweet and irresistible texture and flavor, while the mild brie is a perfect complement.

Make sure to stop by for these specials, as they will be offered for a limited time.

EASY AS POT PIE

Now available at Fendu Boulangerie in Manoa Marketplace, Curry Vegetable Pot Pie ($12.50) is sure to be a top-seller. Packed with organic rainbow carrots and soybeans, as well as locally sourced eggplant, butternut squash, bok choy and bell pepper, this savory dish is tasty and good for you. Add in local organic Kaiulani Spices and a coconut milk-infused curry sauce and you have a true winner. And don’t forget the golden brown phyllo-dough pastry crust on top to sop up all that goodness inside.
