Beef Stew ($8.50)

When it comes to ono grinds that “broke da mout” (without breaking the bank), Laverne’s Hawaiian and Local Style Food has it all. Laverne’s is known for its generous portions, affordable prices and local flavors, and kamaaina are sure to enjoy the variety of menu items.

For example, Kanaka Nachos ($10) takes traditional nachos to the next level by adding some local flair.

“It’s tortilla chips with kalua pig, smoked meat, squid luau and lomi salmon,” says owner Travis Paulo, who runs the family business with his parents, Rene and Laverne. “It’s something we put together recently and it’s available every day.”

Kanaka Nachos ($10)

Laverne’s also is known for its Teri Beef Plate ($9.50) and Beef Stew ($8.50).

“Our Teri Beef Plate comes with two scoops of rice, mac or tossed salad and we use sliced ribeye,” Paulo says.

“Our Beef Stew is local-style and made with top-quality beef. It’s cooked until it melts in your mouth. It’s got potatoes, carrots, celery and onions in there,” he adds.

Chocolate Crunch ($4)

It’s easy to chow down on Laverne’s delicious entrees , but make sure to save room for dessert. Paulo says

Chocolate Crunch ($4) has picked up in popularity. “It’s a chocolate cake with pudding, cool whip and toffee, and we bring it out every day,” he confirms.

Even though it’s still spring, it’s not too early to plan ahead for summer graduation parties, according to Paulo.

Teri Beef Plate ($9.50)

“We’re known for our catering as well,” he says. “Summer is one of our busiest seasons, so don’t forget to book ahead for your grad parties.”
