There’s something about New Shilawon Korean Restaurant that just feels cozy. Walk in and immediately feel at home in its casual, welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel as though you’re going over to a friend’s house — if only your “friend” were a really, really good cook.

Serving up traditional, home-style Korean eats, New Shilawon specializes in yakiniku, and is perhaps most noted for its range of meats you can choose to cook up at table-top grills — including pork belly, kalbi, brisket, bulgogi, ribeye and more.

As Dining Out found on a recent visit, it doesn’t stop there. New Shilawon also has made-to-order, ready-to-eat items like Nutritious Stone Pot Rice Combo ($15.95 for lunch; $18.95 for dinner; see sidebar for more).

According to manager Jandy Lee, Nutritious Stone Pot Rice Combo has become one of the most popular lunch items. On the go? It’s also available for takeout.

SET IN STONE

Nutritious Stone Pot Rice Combo is served in a stone pot with red rice, assorted beans and pumpkin, as well as your choice of Yellow Corvina (pictured) or Bulgogi. Accompanying the dish is one stew of your choice — miso (pictured), kimchee or soft tofu. And last but not least, the combo also comes with 4-5 banchan (side dishes), which may include bean sprouts and kimchee among others.
