Fresh island cuisine makes its home at the new 100 Sails Restaurant & Bar, the signature dining venue of Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki.

Serving both buffets and a la carte menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner, 100 Sails opened Nov. 21 and is spearheaded by the culinary expertise of chef de cuisine Joseph Almoguera.

“We’re found on 100 Holomoana St., and holomoana means ‘seafarer,’ which translated to our name 100 Sails,” explains hotel manager Randi Fernandez. “We’re all about that sense of place, and focus on local cuisine paired with beautiful oceanfront views.”

Prices of the buffets range from $32 to $58, and there are multiple stations serving everything from sushi and noodles to tempura and desserts. But don’t skip the a la carte menu, which has the popular Wagyu Burger with Truffle Fries ($25). A toasted potato bun encases a gourmet wagyu beef patty topped with caramelized Ewa sweet onions, brie cheese, Kamuela tomatoes and butter lettuce. “This is one of our most-ordered items. Wagyu is premium quality Japanese beef, which makes the entire burger taste amazing,” says Fernandez.

On the lighter side is Roasted Beet Salad ($12), a colorful array of roasted red and golden beets, puna goat cheese, Waimanalo baby greens, candied macadamia nuts and a calamansi vinaigrette. The dish highlights local vegetables, showcasing Almoguera’s fondness of Hawaii-grown foods.

100 Sails also has a daily special, which oftentimes is fresh fish (market price), like Chermoula Crusted Fresh Catch ($40). The tender ahi is served with charred eggplant and cauliflower couscous, and topped with a Moroccan-style chermoula sauce, which is made with anchovies, capers, garlic, Italian parsley, cilantro, cumin and lemon.

The restaurant also recently introduced happy hour daily, available until Jan. 31. Starting 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and again from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., customers can enjoy $2 off draft beer and draft wine, and $5 off a flight of three 5-ounce beers.
