What better way to celebrate the beginning of a new year than with an all-you-can-eat buffet?

The remarkable spread at Makino Chaya is full of all your local favorites — delicious enough to put aside your New Year’s resolution to lose weight for one day. There’s a carving station with tender, sliced roast beef, steak and short ribs, which is available for dinner every Friday to Sunday. Don’t miss the fresh seafood, like steamed crab, glistening pieces of sashimi such as ahi and hamachi, nigiri, sushi rolls and squid karaage.

Other favorites include spicy chicken wings and shrimp tempura ramen. Be sure to save room for dessert, and grab another plate to pile high sweet treats like lemon bars, frozen yogurt, bread pudding and shave ice.

And the best part? You can loosen your belt mid-meal, take a break and then return for more.

“Makino Chaya is a great place to gather the family together and enjoy a private party — we can accommodate up to 300 guests,” says general manager Chris Mitchell. If you have a minimum of 250 people, Mitchell and the staff will even accommodate requests to reserve the entire restaurant for either lunch or dinner.

Makino Chaya is conveniently located in Westridge Shopping Center, with a spacious interior that offers plenty of seating. The buffet is more than affordable, especially if customers take advantage of the establishment’s multiple discounts such as military and seniors, as well as birthday and early bird specials, the latter of which takes place Mondays-Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. As for the little ones ages12 and younger, 4-5 feet tall receive 50 percent off, 3-4 feet receive 75 percent off and those under 3 feet eat for free.
