A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Pig on Grass ($10.29)

Keeping up with Kono’s just got easier for Oahu foodies, now that the 13-year-old Haleiwa business has opened a brand-new location on Kapahulu Avenue.

Kono’s is known for its delicious slow-roasted kalua pig that’s served up in a number of scrumptious ways. The eatery also pleases customers with burritos, sandwiches, wraps and more — all of which are perfect for grabbing on the go or enjoying at the hip dining spot.

“(Customers) can come in, sit down and relax. Everybody is friendly,” says owner Stan Glander. “The food and the service are special.”

One of Kono’s most refreshing offerings is Pig on Grass, highlighting the tempting pork on a bed of fresh salad. The establishment also caters to those with a sweet tooth, with specialty milkshake flavors such as Mud Pie, Strawberry Cheesecake and Reece’s.

Some dedicated patrons love Kono’s so much that they’re part of the eatery’s Tattoo Crew and have real tattoos of the restaurant’s unique surfing pig logo. Customers who show their Kono’s ink have their picture featured on the eatery’s wall and receive a lifelong 25-percent discount.
