When sushi cravings inevitably come around, Genki Sushi has got all the makings of a solid goto eatery: It’s quick, affordable and has a varied menu that’s sure to have your favorites. The menu is vast, featuring everything from donburi to custom rolls. And with nine locations on Oahu, there is sure to be one close to you no matter where you are when the cravings hit.
Genki has been a longtime local staple, and more recently, you may have noticed that some of its locations now feature an express system that allows you to get made-to-order items delivered right to your seat with the touch of a button. If the technology hasn’t made it to your local Genki yet, hold on — eventually, all Genkis will have this feature.
THIS IS HOW WE ROLL
One of Genki’s popular creations is Caterpillar Roll ($5.15), featuring cucumber, tamago and unagi — all wrapped up in rice and nori, topped with avocado and drizzled with unagi sauce and Genki’s own special sauce.
Another of Genki’s creative concoctions includes its seared items. It involves taking a seared piece of fish, then placing it over rice and topping it with garlic, spicy and unagi sauce. The result is perfect — the sauces neatly complement the fish, without overpowering it. But here’s the hard part: selecting which type of fish to go with. Can’t decide? That’s where Ultimate Trio B ($5.15) comes in. It’s got salmon, hamachi and ahi all seared and accented with garlic, spicy and unagi sauces. It’s a can’t-miss item.
