Hidden within Market City Shopping Center’s lower level is Formaggio Wine Bar, a quaint and romantic eatery ideal for reveling in a delicious meal.

Inspired by Italian, French and even some local cuisine, Formaggio is perfect for any occasion — whether it’s date night, a girls’ night out or a family meal, its menu offers a little something for everyone.

In 2012, owner Niraj Maskey was a frequent diner at Formaggio. He loved the food, wine and cozy setting so much that when the opportunity to purchase the restaurant came up, he bought it. With experience from previously running an Indian restaurant, Maskey has the know how to cater to his customers’ every need.

In addition to Formaggio’s impressive menu, it houses a vast wine list, which currently features Willamette Valley’s 2014 Alchemist Pinot Noir for $15 per glass.

THE BEST IN SPRINGTIME FARE

One of the most popular dishes at Formaggio is Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich ($15.99). According to owner Niraj Maskey, most people don’t think to order a sandwich when dining in an Italian restaurant, but he doesn’t want patrons to miss out on this specialty. It’s filled with slices of mozzarella cheese and high-quality dry-cured ham, vine-ripened tomatoes and sweet basil pesto.

Another widely adored bite is Pizza Primavera ($14.99). The name translates to “spring” in Italian, and that’s exactly the season all of the dish’s fresh vegetables will remind you of. Featuring portabello mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, roasted peppers and onions, and topped with goat cheese, this pizza surely will leave you wanting more.
