A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: Shabu shabu broths: Kogi Aina Shoyu House and Oxtail ($4.95 per broth)

The Windward side of Oahu has added a dash of shabu-shabu goodness to the neighborhood. Opened just last month, Kogi Aina aims to bring more Korean flair to the hot-pot scene in Kaneohe.

This new, family-run eatery comes equipped with a sauce bar and fully stocked refrigerators filled with delicious meats and veggies for tasty dining experiences. Instead of pre-arranged combos, brothers and co-owners Tomas and Dae Ho Paek want to offer customizable meals to their customers.

“For us, you can basically choose everything individually,” says Tomas.

All of the eatery’s broths are made without MSG, and the majority also are vegan-friendly. In addition to shabu shabu, diners are welcome to try Bibim, hot-stone plates with either kalbi, chicken, bulgogi or vegetables.

During January, receive a 20-percent discount when using Kogi Aina’s Dining Out coupon (see page 12). Come in to try its most popular broths: Kogi Aina Shoyu House and Oxtail.
