Wailana Coffee House has some regulars who love the food so much that they frequent the island diner on a daily basis.

“We serve local-style comfort food with consistency, value and service that keeps our customers coming back,” explains general manager Kenton Tom.

It only makes sense that a restaurant so cozy is a family affair. Tom runs the restaurant alongside his two siblings and his wife. And the establishment’s roots go back farther than that, to Tom’s father Francis, who opened the shop back in 1969.

‘BROASTING’ CHICKEN TO PERFECTION

Wailana Coffee House particularly is known for its breakfast items, which include dishes like the Jamboree Breakfast. For $8.25, you get all-you-can-eat pancakes, two large grade-A eggs, two strips of hickory-smoked bacon and coffee. You also can opt to add various toppings — pineapple, banana, blueberries or macadamia nuts — for $1.75 each.

As Wailana’s dedicated set of regulars already know, you can get every meal of the day there.

Dinner items include Broasted Chicken Dinner ($13.95), which features a 1.25-pound marinated and seasoned chicken that’s “broasted” to a golden-brown crisp. (“Broasting” is a form of cooking designed to make the chicken crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, while avoiding the typical greasiness of fried foods.) The meal comes with your choice of starch, hot vegetables of the day and access to Wailana’s all-you-can-eat salad bar.
