With the holiday season in full swing, many of us are still in planning mode — whether organizing festive parties or getting our stocking stuffers in order. Zippy’s Restaurants is here to make crossing off your to-do list a little easier — and more delicious — with its holiday-ready selections for Christmas, New Year’s and everything in between.

Families have adored Zippy’s local-style comfort foods for generations, so it’s no surprise that many of them will make the island dining chain part of their holiday celebrations as well. The company offers an array of popular party platters, including the Holiday Sushi Platter ($31.95), with 40 pieces of maki, 12 cucumber, 12 takuan and 10 inari sushi varieties. Three days’ notice is requested for this item, which will be available for pickup through Dec. 31 at all Oahu locations, and Jan. 1 at select locations (Ewa, Kahala, Kaneohe, Kapolei, Makiki, Mililani, Pearlridge, Vineyard and Waiau). Zippy’s go-to pupu platters never disappoint, especially during this time of year.

From Fried Noodles ($26.25) and Korean Fried Chicken ($33.50) to Chicken Katsu ($28.95) and the Local Favorites Platter ($30.75) — combining teri beef, hoki, chicken katsu, hot dog and Portuguese sausage — you can’t go wrong when adding these favorites to your spread. Just give at least one hour’s notice when placing your order.

“We offer the convenience of having these items available for you and your family to enjoy,” says Zippy’s Restaurants marketing manager Jeanine Mamiya-Kalahiki.

Zippy’s welcomes you and your family to feast away on Christmas Dine-In Specials, available Dec. 24 and 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the dine-in restaurants and fast-food counters. Bite into Roast Turkey Plate ($10.25 fast food, $11.90 dine-in), Baked Ham ($8.75 fast food, $10.15 dine-in) and Turkey and Ham Combo ($10.75 fast food, $12.35 dine-in). A few more specials — Salmon with Crab Artichoke Sauce ($14.95) and Prime Rib with Au Jus ($19.95) — only are available at dine-in restaurants.

As visions of Santa’s elves making toys in their workshop come to mind, you too can finish collecting presents with holiday gift cards from Zippy’s. The convenient and reloadable cards range from $5 to $100, and when you purchase $50 in gift cards from now until Dec. 31, you’ll receive a free $5 Zippy’s coupon (see sidebar for more details).

Zippy’s has been serving the Islands since 1966, and the company knows that the best way to ring in the new year is with flavorful fare. The Holiday Sushi Platter and Maki Sushi Roll ($5 uncut; limit 10 rolls) are perfect for New Year’s celebrations, as are traditional favorites such as Konbu Maki ($10.95 six pack) with pork, carrot and gobo wrapped with konbu and kanpyo. You also can order Namasu ($14.25 zip meal, about 2 pounds; $47.75 barrel, about 7 pounds) and Chicken Nishime ($15.25 zip meal; $49.25 barrel), a savory Japanese stew prepared with sataimo (taro balls), lots of veggies, konyaku and more.

“New Year’s items offer traditional, local Japanese dishes, so you don’t have to spend time and labor making them. And they taste great — just like mom used to make them!” says Mamiya-Kalahiki.

Prepayment is required for these items, and you can order online at zippys.com by clicking on the New Year’s Specials link until Dec. 24. You also can order through Zippy’s Administration Office until Dec. 28, and if you’d like to pre-order with a credit card, call 973-0880 Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Customers may pay in person at select locations where New Year’s items will be available for pick up: Kapolei, Vineyard, Makiki, Waiau, Pearlridge, Kaneohe, Kahala, Ewa and Mililani. Pickup will be on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, and these locations will be open from 10 a.m. New Year’s Day (except Pearl-ridge, which will open at 8 a.m.). All other locations will be closed New Year’s Day, and most locations will close early New Year’s Eve.
