When a restaurant has been in busi ness for more than a decade, it must be doing something right. Ahi & Vegetable has been serving hungry Hawaii residents from its Downtown Honolulu location for 11 years now, and the eatery has become so popular that it opened a second site to satisfy the cravings of its clientele last year.

Located at Kapalama Shopping Center, the newer installment offers diners the same quality and good taste of the freshest fish daily that they have come to know, love and expect from the original locale.

“Some people ask me about any special ingredients of my food, but I can tell them my only special ingredients are my experience and effort for food,” says owner Sam Seo. Also, try a sample of fresh fish selections for yourself, and see what the buzz is about.

The Ahi Block (market price) is just what you need for DIY sashimi. This No. 1-grade, fresh from the market Hawaii ahi is ready to be sliced and served in your own signature sashimi platter.

Seo explains that this item is perfect for a DIY party. “It’s a no-hassle, no-waste way to make sashimi at home,” he says. “Just make, slice and eat for your special day.” An added bonus? Always knowing you’ll receive a fair price.

“Usually in December, ahi prices hit the sky, but we do our best to pair good quality with an affordable price,” Seo assures.

Also great for a party — but an item that has all the work done for you — is Sushi Combo Platter ($40), featuring a smattering of the freshest choices of sushi. “These are good for any kind of parties,” says Seo. “We have more than 10 different party platters, like poke, sashimi, sushi, spicy ahi, etc., all priced between $35 and $60.”
