As multiple generations of local diners can attest, New Eagle Cafe continues to serve up an alluring array of local-style comfort food favorites at affordable prices.

The popular dining destination is located in Nimitz Center, conveniently situated along Nimitz Highway in the heart of one of Honolulu’s bustling business districts. Owner Tae Im took over operations nearly three years ago and continues the restaurant’s rich legacy of serving stellar local-style favorites while providing excellent customer service. The restaurateur is well aware of the rich history New Eagle Cafe has established through more than 80 years in Honolulu, and is committed to continuing the locale’s rich tradition of serving Island residents and visitors.

“I definitely want to continue the tradition of the restaurant and carry the torch, so to speak,” Im says when describing New Eagle Cafe, which specializes in local favorites made to order. “We offer a friendly, local-style atmosphere.”

Diners can look forward to rotating daily specials, including Beef Liver with onions and bacon ($12.50, available daily) and Kim Chee Fried Rice with a choice of Chicken Yakitori or Beef Teriyaki ($13.95, available Monday through Friday). On Wednesdays and Saturdays, guests can look forward to Roast Leg of Lamb with stuffing and gravy ($14.95), while Roast Pork with stuffing and gravy ($14.50) is available Wednesdays and Sundays. Beef Tongue with Spinach ($13.75) is another popular special available on Wednesdays.

In addition to the excellent value offered via so many classic a la carte selections, Im explains that diners also can take advantage of New Eagle Cafe’s “complete meal deal” for an additional $4, coupled with any lunch or dinner entrée purchase. With the meal deal, customers receive a choice of tossed house salad or soup of the day, along with a selection of hot tea, iced tea or a fountain drink, as well as one’s pick of dessert among various pies, ice cream, sherbet or Jell-O.

Customers are encouraged to take advantage of multiple Early Bird Specials available daily from 3 to 5 p.m. Some of the tasty options include Spaghetti with Meat Sauce ($9.50, comes with garlic bread), Fish Katsu ($10.25), Chinese Chicken Salad ($9.75), Hamburger Steak ($10.50) and Beef Teriyaki ($10.50). These great deals are available as dine-in meals and come with a choice of white rice, brown rice or fries, except for the spaghetti and Chinese Chicken Salad.

Families also are treated to incredible value at New Eagle Cafe, including the popular “Summer and Fall” promotion. On Mondays, keiki 10 years old and under eat for free with the purchase of an adult entrée. Only children’s menu items are eligible for the promotion, and beverages and desserts are not included in the can’t-miss ohana deal.

New Eagle Cafe also serves beer and wine to accompany one’s meal, including Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light and Miller Light ($3.25 each, $2.75 during happy hour) and Heineken and Heineken Light ($4.25 each, $3.75 during happy hour). Various wine bottles also are available, including House Chardonnay ($5.60 for 6.3 ounces, $23 for 750 ml. bottle) and House Cabernet ($5.60 for 6.3 ounces, $23 for 750 ml. bottle). As a reminder, there is a $10 corkage fee for 750 ml. bottles, and wine is not served by the glass.

It’s never too early to start planning for the holiday season. Im encourages customers to plan for New Eagle Cafe’s popular Christmas Trolley Special. On the first three Mondays in December (Dec. 7, 14 and 21), dine-in customers will get to ride for free on a special trolley that will take a round trip to and from the downtown Honolulu City Lights. Reservations must be made to enjoy this family-friendly experience, and those interested are encouraged to call the restaurant for more details.
