A CLOSER LOOK AT THIS WEEK’S HOUSE SPECIAL: New York Deli Pastrami Sandwich ($16)

With football season about to kick off in a couple of weeks, Champs Sports Grill on Waialae Avenue is here for all your game-watching and dining needs. Making a new play from typical bar food, Champs’ New York Deli Pastrami Sandwich ($16) is ready to tackle your East-Coast cravings. A traditional dish has never been made so easily. First, a heap of steamed pastrami is firmly packed between savory rye bread. The meat is exclusively from Boar’s Head — a New York-founded supplier of premium deli meats — and the bread is locally made. The hefty serving of meat is sandwiched between the bread to create a perfect pastrami bite, with a good amount of fat content. The dish comes with a pickle and deli mustard. So, if you’re looking for a touchdown-worthy spot for sports and specialties, then come on down to this Kaimuki eatery where it always scores the extra point.
