A calming oasis amid the bustling mecca of Honolulu’s Ala Moana Center, Jade Dynasty Seafood Restaurant welcomes hungry diners to stop in and enjoy a welcomed reprieve from the shopping madness.

Located at Hookipa Terrace, Jade Dynasty ushers clientele into its elegant dining room amid a lovely atmosphere marked by sparkling chandeliers and refined decor. The ambiance is so beautiful, in fact, that diners may be tempted to forget how great the food is, yet the minute the delightful aromas of the establishment’s dishes dance across the air, one is quickly reminded that it’s the cuisine that keeps customers coming back for more.

General manager Gary Chan shares a few of the eatery’s special items, starting with an ever-popular dim sum duo. Mushroom Look Fun Roll ($5.50), showcasing enoki and shiitake mushrooms, carrots and cilantro encased in a delicate and delicious wrap, and served with a side dipping sauce, is a favorite here. “The thin encasing is both beautiful — you can see the vegetables through it — and better tasting, as it’s more delicate and less doughy than most,” explains Chan.

Taro Bun ($4.50), a delightfully chewy and perfectly soft snow mountain bun infused with taro paste, is easy to spot by its distinct lavender hue. “Taro is always a local favorite,” says Chan. “We even sent our chef to Hong Kong to learn how to make the snow mountain bun,” an item which Chan explains customers also are able to order with haupia filling.

Vibrantly colored with bursts of red that catch the eye, Sweet and Sour Eggplant with Roasted Pine Nut ($12.95) features eggplant fried in tempura batter and lightly swathed in a house-made sweet and sour sauce. It’s served with pineapple, onion, bell pepper and the piece de resistance — pine nuts.

As we enjoy the meal, Chan directs Dining Out‘s gaze to the newly installed big screen TV, explaining that the addition has proven perfect for entertaining when hosting private parties — an option that clients often take advantage of when it comes time for reunions, birthdays, corporate functions and more.
